The first single from my upcoming album is out today.
Cela fait plus d’un an que j’ai commencé à fabriquer de nouvelles chansons. Début 2024, j’ai mis fin à la tournée Hello Future Me : ma voix changeait, trouver les notes me demandait un effort et il m’était devenu presque impossible d’interpréter mon répertoire.
It’s been over a year since I started creating new songs. In early 2024, I ended the Hello Future Tour : my voice was changing, finding the notes took effort, and it had become nearly impossible to perform my own repertoire.
J’ai eu besoin de fabriquer un refuge, un espace où réapprendre à chanter. J’ai décidé de créer cette zone d’hospitalité avec Louis Jucker, complice de longue date (qui avait produit Dead-End Tape en 2014 et Hello Future Me en 2022). Ensemble, on a réuni tout un tas d’objet de récupération et on en a construit un studio pour enregistrer les futures chansons.
I needed to build a refuge, a place to relearn how to sing. I decided to create this space of hospitality with longtime collaborator Louis Jucker (who had produced Dead-End Tape in 2014 and Hello Future Me in 2022). Together, we gathered salvaged objects and built a studio to record the songs to come.
Dans cet espace, j’ai rétabli un lien avec ma voix, couplet après refrain. J’ai compris que nos limitations sont aussi des ouvertures, que nos fragilités sont aussi nos horizons. En observant le monde, j’ai vu cette transformation partout : tout est mouvement. C’est d’ailleurs en courant dans la forêt que m’est venue la première bribe de ce morceau.
In that space, I slowly reconnected with my voice, verse after chorus. I realized that our limitations can also be openings, that our vulnerabilities can shape new horizons. Looking at the world, I saw this transformation everywhere—everything is in motion. And it was while running through the forest that the first idea of this song came to me.
“change my name” raconte comment la façon dont on nomme les êtres peut nous confiner ou nous libérer. Dans la première partie, des guitares saturées, la batterie à vif de Luc Hess, des orgues, de la fuzz, et ma voix que je retrouve et découvre. Dans la seconde, cette énergie se métamorphose : les mots – ou leur absence, leur redéfinition – créent de nouvelles formes, de nouveaux liens.
“change my name” explores how the way we name beings can either confine or free us. In the first part, saturated guitars, Luc Hess’ raw drumming, organs, fuzz, and my voice, both rediscovered and remodeled. In the second, this raw energy transforms: words—or their absence, their redefinition—create new shapes, new connections.
Aujourd’hui, je vous partage ce premier extrait. La fin d’un long chemin, le début d’un autre. Ou simplement la poursuite de l’état permanent de transformation du monde.
Today, I’m sharing this first song with you. The end of a long road, the beginning of another. Or simply the continuation of the world’s perpetual transformation.
